About

Until we as a nation are able to break this social stigma, medical patients across America are not going to have access to cannabis that they need. We know that the Southern states are notoriously against medical marijuana, and this is where the stigma lies most heavily in the nation. However, in the past few years, United States military veterans are rallying together across the nation to advocate for the right to use medical marijuana and fight back against the social misconceptions about cannabis.

Some people in the United States argue that only ‘potheads’ would like to see marijuana legalized throughout the country. However, many of these same people cannot deny the seriousness and respectability of U.S. veterans that are not joining the fight. Southern sentiments to the United States veteran population are high, which means that most people would view veterans as heroes and people that need to be served well after they went through so much to serve their country. Hopefully, veterans being an advocate for legalizing medical marijuana will spur more southern states into action than in years prior, especially as northern and coastal states continue to advance and develop their own medical marijuana programs. People in the south are simply being left behind.

So what kind of conditions do veterans deal with, and how can medical marijuana help? Well, a lot can be said about what veterans sacrifice in their duty of protecting our country. First and foremost, many veterans that come home from deployment suffer from invisible wounds in the form of PTSD and mental health disorders. Oftentimes, veterans do not have a way to process what they have seen and experienced once they come home, and others have a hard time trying to integrate back into society. The benefit of medical marijuana for these veterans is that it allows them to alleviate their physical pain symptoms as well as their mental unrest.

Medical cannabis can be a great way for disable veterans to find peace from day to day. It is also true that many veterans struggle to sleep at night and are kept awake by nightmares and terrible flashbacks to what they have seen and done. Medical marijuana is a great way to cure insomnia and allow these war heroes to get the rest that they need, night after night.
